Thread: Server Selection Question

  1. #1
Hey how is everyone doing on this fine Thursday Evening!
I always find myself slid the Platform Technical threads, superior amounts of knowledge to be found here.

Anyways, I am here in order to obtain some insight on the next (as always your own comments and information are greatly appreciated!)

I've made an observation in regards to Server Selection in MT4. Long story short MT4 selects a Quicker Server automatically, once I after manually pick a Server with lower delay.
It's a bit annoying why can they allow manual selection of your preferred server... only to override it and pick a lesser one after a few minutes. Below I have attached a screenshot, it is possible to see it selects 5.73ms over the 0.74ms Server. . .this is insanity

So ladies and gents is there any way to work with this? Any kind of script/EA that may be designed to automatically keep selecting the quicker server... is it even possible to program anything even if it's outside to MT4 like a macro... anyone know any developer capable of this function?

You need to bear in mind the servers are not all necessarily doing exactly the same job. For instance, your own 0.74ms server follows a completely different naming convention to the other trading types (Live DCx...), which may lead us to surmise it isn't the proper server for the account to link to. Much like demo servers versus servers.

MT4 documentation on how the server auto detect runs is scant... well, even it's non-existent.
Again, with our buddy Mr. Suppositionwe may conclude that MetaQuotes is applying the exact criteria to MetaTrader 4 because it will for MetaTrader 5. Conveniently, MetaTrader 5 will have any documentation about the topic (emphasis added):

In order to switch to one of access points you need to click on its title. It's necessary to mention that in the following network scanning the best server will be selected automatically.

I believe that you might want to email metaquotes/broker live chat about it, might not always be better on lower ping time server. Perhaps the server that is auto for you has best selected? I don't really understand, but intriguing.

Too naive to believe this stupid issue may occur in well-established and completely tested MT4 computer software.
Before I was playing with the servers also, afforded no improvement. Then I gave up in playing techy guy
