Higher dairy, wood, and wine exports lift new zealand's trade surplus

More dairy, wood, and wine exports in April 20 17 led to a products trade surplus of $578 million, Stats NZ said today.

In April we had the biggest monthly trade surplus since 2015, global trade data senior supervisor Daria Kwon stated. This trimmed back the yearly deficit, which reached an eight-year high in February.

The yearly trade deficit decreased to $3.5 billion in April from $3.7 billion in March. In February 20 17 it peaked at $3.8 billion, the greatest trade deficit in nearly eight years.

April's products trade surplus was the biggest month-to-month surplus since March 2015 and the greatest April surplus since April 2011. This year Easter fell in April, but the getaway seemed to have small effect on exports. Both imports and exports reached new highs for an April month.
